Free 1-1 legal guidance for Tokyo startups - meetup and networking

The next Start-Ed session is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 8th July from the later time of 7.30pm. We hope to have both English-speaking and Japanese-speaking advisors covering a range of legal topics relevant to startups. If you have any particular issues you would like covered, please let us know.

At this event, we hope to have Jeff Wexler from Studio Ghibli who is a specialist in IP law and as well as some experienced Japanese benrishi from a well known Japanese firm of patent attorneys. Further advisors will be announced shortly.

Start-Ed is a not for profit organization, but the venue for this event, Open Source Cafe, needs to cover their costs, and has a small cover charge of ¥1,000 per person (this includes a free drink). The venue is also a little difficult to find for the first time, so please check out the map.

Each month we will have different advisors with different areas of expertise. We will also look to engage students from different Tokyo universities who will learn from assisting Tokyo-based startups.

Please be aware that our experts are experienced advisors in their chosen field, and have a wide variety of qualifications. While some of them are qualified to advise on legal issues here in Japan, others have experience working in Japan but are licensed to practice in other jurisdictions such as in Europe or North America. In our sessions, we strive to ensure that all conversations we have are with attendees are worthwhile and that the feedback we provide is genuinely useful for their business, but this feedback is in the form of general thoughts and ideas rather than specific tailored legal advice.
